At NBE Property Restoration in Santa Rosa and the North Bay Area, we're always working to make the restoration process easier to understand for homeowners and insurance professionals. That's why we've added five new terms to our Restoration Glossary this week. These definitions come straight from IICRC S500 and S520 industry standards and real-world water, fire, and mold jobs we handle every day.
This Week's 5 New Restoration Terms
1. Adsorption
The process in which moisture sticks to the surface of materials like wood, drywall, or carpet. Restoration professionals manage adsorption during structural drying to speed up recovery after water damage.
2. ATP Testing
A fast scientific test that measures organic residue on surfaces to verify they are truly clean after mold remediation or biohazard cleanup.
3. Biohazard Restoration
Specialized cleanup and restoration after events involving sewage, blood, or other potentially infectious materials. NBE follows strict safety protocols to return your property to safe, healthy condition.
4. Building Science
The study of how a home's structure, air flow, and moisture interact. Restoration experts use building science principles to prevent future water or mold problems in the North Bay area.
5. Capillary Action
The natural movement of water through porous materials (like concrete or wood) against gravity. Understanding capillary action helps technicians locate hidden water migration after floods.
